Introduction
This article provides a comprehensive guide to efficiently manage employee data and training modules within ModernLoop through bulk imports. It covers three essential areas: Profile Info, Custom Attributes, and Modules.
In this article
Profile info
Profile information can be added to employees individually or through a bulk import. The import functionality allows you to bulk assign interviewers to a department, team, level, location, and manager as well as adding the interviewer's LinkedIn URL and title. While you can manually add/edit these fields in Directory > {{Interviewer name}}, this process allows users to manage the fields in bulk. This page can be accessed by navigating to Organization settings> Interviewers> Profile info.
Bulk import file specifications
The bulk import process uses a CSV file with the following fields and requirements:
- Employee email- This field is required
- Manager email
- Department
- Team
- Level
- Title
- Note: This is a candidate facing field and appears in the candidate's schedule
- LinkedIn
- Note: This is a candidate facing field and appears in the candidate's schedule
- Location
- Country
Steps to uploading your file
- Navigate to Organization Settings> Interviewers> Profile info
- Download the spreadsheet template from the Download template button or from the attachment in this help center article
- Enter the information in the template you wish to add/ update
- Select Upload profile info file
- Select your file
- Your file will process in the background. You may navigate away from the page while the upload process completes. Once the upload has completed, you will receive an email confirmation.
Manually creating Profile info
ModernLoop allows you to create custom values for Department, Level, Location, and Team. When a file is bulk imported, we will automatically add any new values from the import into your list of values for each Profile info type. You may also manually add these values if you do not wish to complete a bulk import. Follow these steps to create a new value:
- Navigate to Organization settings> Interviews
- Select the + button next to the organization detail type you wish to add a new value to
- Enter the value in the Value name field
- (Optional) assign interviewers to the value by searching their name in People search field
- Click Save
The new value can now be assigned to interviewers through the Directory tab (Directory> {{interviewer name}}> Info> Edit)
Filtering Metrics with Import Fields
Once a file has been uploaded containing employee data such as Department, Team, Level, and/or Location, you may filter Metrics using these fields.
Note: Metrics are not filterable by country.
Navigate to Metrics> Interviewers and select from the filters at the top of the page
Custom Attributes
Custom Attributes can be added to employees individually or through a bulk import. The import functionality allows you to bulk assign custom attributes. While you can manually add/edit these fields in Directory > {{Interviewer name}}, this process allows users to manage the fields in bulk. This page can be accessed by navigating to Organization settings> Interviewers> Custom Attributes.
Bulk Import Specifications
The bulk import process uses a CSV file with the following fields and requirements:
- Employee email- This field is required
- Attribute1:Value1- Replace the header with your parent attribute and value. For example, if the attribute is Coding and a value is C++, the heading would be replaced with Coding:C++
- To add an employee to the attribute value, indicate YES in the field
- To remove an employee from an attribute value, indicate REMOVE in the field
- Null values will not make any changes
Example:
For reference, the downloadable template will show the following:
Let's say that we would like to add this employee to the existing attribute Coding and value C++, remove them from Rust, make no changes to React, and add them to a new value, Go, our file would look like this:
In this example we were able to add the employee to an existing value, remove them from an existing value, submit a null value so that no changes are made, and add the employee to a value that has not yet been created. Once this file is uploaded, the new value "Go" will be added to the list of other values under the Coding attribute.
Steps to uploading your file
- Navigate to Organization Settings> Interviewers> Custom Attributes
- Download the spreadsheet template from the Download template button or from the attachment in this help center article
- Enter the information in the template you wish to add/ update
- Select Upload custom attributes file
- Select your file
- Your file will process in the background. You may navigate away from the page while the upload process completes. Once the upload has completed, you will receive an email confirmation.
Modules

- To add an employee to a module as a shadow, indicate SHADOW in the field
- To add an employee to a module as a reverse shadow, indicate REVERSE_SHADOW in the field

Example:
For reference, the downloadable template will show the following:
Let's say that we would like to add this employee to Product Design as a shadow, Product Sense as a reverse shadow, Product Management as trained, and remove them from the Technical Challenge module our file would look like this:
Note: employees can be added to Shadow 1 and Reverse Shadow 1 through the import process. If there is more than one shadow or reverse shadow stage, and the employee should be in a secondary shadow or reverse shadow stage, updates must be made through the module itself.
